Abstract:

The present study aims at investigating the correlation between preptin hormone and antioxidant parameters in type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this study 185 diabetes patients were compared with a group of 71 healthy subjects. The malondialdehyde (MDA), peroxy nitrate (PANs), reduced glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase(GPx), catalase enzyme(CAT) (markers of oxidative stress), serum total cholesterol (STC), triglycerides (STG) high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), glucose (BS), uric acid (UA), total protein(TP),albumin(Alb) globulin(Glob) and (Preptin H) were all measured via the enzymatic methods. Results indicated a significant increase (p<0.05) in the levels ofMDA, GSH, PANs, GPx, CAT, BS, STC, STG, HDL, LDL, UA, Alb, TP, Glob and Preptin H in diabetic patients as compared with healthy subjects. The same fact holds. A significant increase (p<0.05) was also observed in the levels of MDA, GSH, PANs, GPx, CAT, BS, STC, STG, HDL, LDL, UA, Alb, TP, Glob and Preptin H in male and female diabetic patients as compared with healthy subjects.
